Las Vegas

Considering a vacation in Las Vegas? Don’t know what to expect? Then you should read our travel guide. We will give you our tips on where to stay and things to do for a wonderful 6-day/7-night Las Vegas getaway.

As you may already know, Las Vegas is a great place to travel. While the main theme of Las Vegas is gambling, it is not all about casinos these days. There are at least 20 major events and shows on any given night. Almost every hotel in Las Vegas offers attractions other than gambling, from circus acts to thrill rides. You can spend days just walking from hotel to hotel, touring each of their attractions, shopping and eating in world-class restaurants. If clubbing is your thing, you will not be disappointed. Most hotels on the strip offer one or more premier night clubs where you can party the night away. Another great feature of Las Vegas hotels are the pool areas. Most are large and well landscaped, providing a great setting for a day outdoors with family and friends. You will also find that the Las Vegas area offers a lot of touring opportunities and outdoor activities, including golf, tennis, swimming and hiking.

So let’s get started. Which hotel or resort should we choose? While there are a lot of very good options, we recommend staying on the strip at The Mirage. The Mirage is in a great location and offers superior amenities at a great price. You will find that even the standard rooms are large and very comfortable. This property has 7 bars/clubs and 13 restaurants, including one of my favorites, the Samba Brazilian Steakhouse. There are always several shows on site, from Cirque du Soleil to comedy headliners. Other on-site attractions include Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat, the Mirage Volcano, the aquarium, a world-class casino, 2 pools (including the adults only Bare at The Mirage), a fitness center and spa.

We always like to split our time evenly between enjoying all of the resort amenities and touring areas outside of the resort. As I mentioned earlier, you can spend days touring other hotels attractions, but there are many activities and places to see just outside of Las Vegas. Some of our favorites are Lake Mead, where you can swim, windsurf and try kiteboarding. Who would have thought that you could go kiteboarding in Las Vegas? You can tour the Colorado River, Hoover Dam and go hiking at nearby Red Rock Canyon. Although it is several hours away, you can take a coach tour for the day to the Grand Canyon. Options from Las Vegas include the West Rim and South Rim tours. Other tours and attractions in Las Vegas include the Fremont Street Experience, Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay, Titanic: The Artifact Exhibit and Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. You can book these activities and more through our website at www.vacationsandtraveldeals.com or arrange through the concierge at your hotel.

We did not forget about the shopping! Get your walking shoes ready. There is no shortage of places to shop in Las Vegas. Located on the strip, the Fashion Show mall features 7 department stores and over 250 boutique shops and restaurants. While touring the hotels along the strip, I recommend shopping at Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian, Mandalay Place at Mandalay Bay and Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood.

And lastly, you have to indulge your appetite while on vacation. The buffets are great, but if you are looking for some other options, I recommend Binion’s Ranch Steakhouse on Fremont Street, Samba Brazilian Steakhouse at The Mirage, Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville and the Hard Rock Cafe.

These suggestions should keep you busy for a week, but don’t forget to relax and enjoy all of your resort amenities.
